Opened in November 2015, the bishops cave is a hybrid cheese, wine and craft beer bar and shop. we wanted to create a relaxed, continental-style bar where people can come and enjoy some of life's little luxuries.

Do i need to book a table:

We would advise booking if you want to guarantee a table. Especially for Thursday-Saturday after 19:00. You don't have to, as we do keep tables available for walk-ins, but we're a small place and it fills up quite quickly. If you are walking in, you can always call the bar phone before you come and we can let you know if there is space.


How do i book a table:

Please use the booking form on the homepage of the website. You need to give us a bit of time to confirm as it is not an automatic system. We're not a restaurant and need to be more flexible than open table or any of those other systems, so please be patient and we'll try to confirm as soon as possible.

I can't see the time that I want:

Sorry, If the time you want is not showing, then that evening is already fully booked. You will need to try for a walk-in table on the night.

How do your table bookings work:

We book one or two sittings on 12 out of 16 tables in the cave.  Before the reservation arrives, and after they leave that table is free for walk-ins.

How many people can i book for:

Our largest table can fit 8-10 people, so our bookings are restricted to 8. If you wish to book for more than 8 people you'll need to call or email us and see if we can accommodate you.

My booking has been declined:

Sometimes, if lots of people book at once, and we can't fit all of them in, or if we can't accommodate the number of people you have requested, then you will receive a notification stating that the reservation has been declined. Normally we'll send an email to explain why we have declined the booking request, so remember to check your emails.

How long do we get the table for:

If you have booked a table for after 18:00, As a general rule we do not book any more tables after you unless you have specifically mentioned that you will be leaving at a certain time. If you have booked a table before 18:00 we will try to give you as long as possible on the table, but please be aware that there might be another booking after you.

What if i'm late:

We hold the table for 20-25 minutes. If you have not called, and do not show up in that time, we will release the table.


Please let us know if you are not coming by calling or texting the number below. You can also cancel via the booking system by clicking on 'manage my booking' (link in email / text message from WixRest). no-shows will be put on the naughty list.

Do you sell gift vouchers:

Yes we sell gift vouchers in various denominations, but they are currently only available in store.

Do you sell tea and coffee:

Currently, we do not sell any hot drinks.

What other food do you do:

Our menu is available on this website and has all of the food that we offer. We do not serve hot food.

Can i bring my own cake:

We have a fantastic in-house baker who we would prefer you to use. Please email or call us to arrange a cake for any occasion. 

Can i hire the whole venue:

Currently we are not doing full venue hire except for sunday or monday nights. Drop us an email to discuss how it could work for you.

Do you do wine tastings:

We will be doing wine tastings in the future, so follow us on social media for announcements.

Do you sell hampers and gift sets:

Yes we do bespoke hampers, come in and see us and we'll put it all together for you.
